Interested in Atlanta Faxel treatments? Fraxel is a laser skin treatment technology developed and marketed by Reliant Technologies Inc. It differs from older types of laser skin treatment in that it utilizes fractional photothermolysis – meaning that the laser light from a Fraxel device is targeted to microscopic areas, avoiding damage to surrounding tissue. This technique allows effective treatment of deep tissue, beneath the epidermis, where aging skin often needs serious repair. Contact us today to schedule your Atlanta fraxel appointment.
Fraxel was initially approved by the FDA in 2003; its approved use was expanded by the FDA in 2004 to include skin resurfacing and the treatment of pigment abnormalities. In 2006 the Fraxis was approved for the treatment of melasma, more commonly known as “the mask of pregnancy.”
Dr. Howard uses Fraxel equipment for the treatment of facial wrinkles, stimulating the growth of collagen beneath the epidermal surface. It is also used for “resurfacing” treatments on the epidermis, resulting in soft, firm skin that provides a more youthful look.
One of the important breakthroughs for Fraxel’s diffuse light system is that it can effectively treat facial lesions (acne) and pigmentation abnormalities effectively in people of all complexions. Age spots, scars and hyperpigmentation all are correctable with Fraxel’s equipment.
One of the axioms of laser skin treatment has been that people with darker complexions ran the risk of color changes in the area treated for facial rejuvenation. For many people the risk of a pigmentation abnormality precluded laser treatment for skin rejuvenation and scar removal.
Fraxel is not only risk free for people of all complexions; it has proven to be singularly effective in treating major pigmentation problems. Its approval for the treatment of a major pigmentation problem, melasma, is evidence that the FDA recognizes the unique capabilities of this technology. Fraxel lasers can treat skin in subsurface layers and be confined with precision to small areas. The settings on the machine are controlled by the doctor and employed for a variety of tasks; recovery time depends largely on the depth of treatment.
Light skin treatment will result in a red face for one to three days, followed by a brief period when the skin appears slightly tanned and begins to peel slightly. After six to seven days the fresh rejuvenated skin will have appeared. Women can wear makeup after the third day and men can resume shaving immediately.
Deeper treatments or those that cover large areas of skin require a longer healing period during which there may be some pain and perhaps a need to help reduce swelling with ice as well as bandaging for any areas that are oozing. Fraxel’s technology helps to minimize recovery time, but all lasers destroy some tissue in order to create new, healthier tissue so the recovery process is really a healing period.
