The active chemical in LATISSE™ is bimatoprost. The precise mechanism of action is not known, but research suggests the growth occurs by increasing the percent of hairs in, and the duration of, the growth phase of eyelashes. Lashes grow longer, thicker and darker because bimatoprost also prolongs the growth phase.

Latisse, a drug used for eyelash lengthening, has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Bimatoprost is the main compound in the product that enables lashes to grow longer, thicker and darker.
