Fraxel is a trademarked name for one company’s fractionated laser technology. Designed for resurfacing wrinkled, sun-damaged, and aging skin, Fraxel is the best known and longest existing of this type of laser in the USA. Currently, there are three types of Fraxel laser treatments available, with each one offer increasing levels of intensity: Fraxel Re:fine, Fraxel Re:store, and Fraxel Re:pair. Fraxel Re:pair is the newest but most intensive resurfacing and epidermal repair laser offered by Fraxel. Long term studies are ongoing on this latest technology.
Through multiple studies done worldwide, there is no evidence that breast implants cause breast cancer. If fact, some studies show that women with implants have a lower incidence of breast cancer. This fact is not likely because implants protect against breast cancer, but because augmentation patients have been prescreened prior to surgery and the higher risk females are less likely to undergo surgery. Also, women who have had augmentation may be more diligent about routine breast examinations.
The decision to have breast implant surgery if you have a family history of breast cancer is a personal decision and should be made only after consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon.
