Excess sweating is a very common and treatable condition known as hyperhidrosis. SmartLipo has afforded a new and highly effective treatment option for patients. The FDA has approved the use of Dysport for treatment of glabellar wrinkles on the face. Now patients have options other than Botox to help soften the dynamic signs of facial aging. Plastic surgeons are hopeful that competition will not only bring down the cost of injections for our patients, but also stimulate more research and development for future effective treatments. Botox is FDA approved, and both safe and effective for treating excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis). The underarm region can be pre-treated with a topical anesthetic. The treatment requires injecting a series of small volumes of Botox directly into the areas where the sweating occurs. The Botox effect amazingly lasts about 6 to 9 months when used for excess sweating.

Last year, Botox injections were the number one cosmetic procedure in the United States!  Despite the current challenging economy, customers continue to embrace the wrinkle relaxing results from Botox. 

FDA approved for treatment of wrinkles between the eyebrows (called the glabella), Botox is effective for frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and the “crow’s feet” or “smile lines” around the eyes.  Nice results can also be seen with wrinkles around the lips and to help reverse the frown at the corners of the mouth.

Botox is also possibly effective in decreasing the occurrence of migraine headaches.

An exciting bit of news is that Botox should soon have competition in the US from competitor Reloxin.  Reloxin is currently in review with the FDA and we eagerly await their decision to expand patient options for wrinkle treatment.
